Lucy has made it past two weeks old and is doing great. Each day we stare at her and comment how perfect she is and how lucky we are.
It took a while, but I finally got a fun photo of Lucy looking straight at the camera, showing off those beautiful dark blue eyes. She is just starting to focus on us and nearby objects. For this photo, she was laying on her mom’s lap, looking over and up at me. We think she was curious about the click-click-click sound the camera was making, as I shot a few dozen frames to get this picture.
We (the brand new and completely inexperienced new parents) are trying to adapt to her constantly changing sleeping schedule. Although I try to help as much as I can, Katie is obviously enduring the brunt of the late night feeding crush. Since I lack the necessary equipment to help directly with the feeding, I will have to wait until Katie begins pumping and I can give bottles. For now, when she wakes up in the middle of the night and Katie needs a break, I try to do what I can to lull her back to sleep. If she doesn’t want sleep (indicated by spitting the pacifier back in my face while making a gesture like a New York cabbie) then I get to bring her to Katie to start the feeding cycle all over. Katie is being a trooper. Thankfully, she does get to nap during the day while Lucy naps.
In recent evenings, we have taken her out for strolls around the neighborhood. The motion of the stroller or a ride in the car quiets her every time (so far). She usually goes to sleep, although we have seen her sitting there with her eyes open, just enjoying the sensations of movement. Keeping in mind that we usually have our dogs wherever we go, don’t be surprised in a year or so when we post that Lucy’s first words are “Rudy, NO!” or “Turk, get the squirrel!”

She is so beautiful! I am so happy for you guys! Hang in there! I hear the first couple of months are the hardest and then it gets a bit easier! You are great parents to your four-legged kiddos, so I have no doubt that you will be great parents to Lucy!! Give yourself some credit! Love you guys!!
