New Foods

Lucy Doesn't Like Squash The first solid food we tried on Lucy was rice cereal.  She loved it, along with the oatmeal and multi-grain cereal.  This weekend we introduced her to veggie baby food for the first time and things didn’t go quite so smoothly.  Her first bites were followed by the funniest “I’m gonna’ puke” face.  I’m sorry I didn’t have the camera pointed at her at that moment.  She then learned the fine art of clamping her mouth tightly shut and turning her head.
She'll Eat Squash If You Make Her Laugh It took a bit, but Kate finally figured out a few magic tricks.  One was mixing up the food.  Sometimes a spoonful of sqash.  Sometimes rice cereal.  Sometimes the two mixed.  Her best trick was to get Lucy to laugh by performing her own renditions of songs from The Wizard of Oz (particularly “If I were King of the Forest”).  Once Lucy started howling, we all broke out laughing hysterically.  Lucy would open her mouth wide in laughter, and Kate would quickly cram another spoonful of squash right in.
Rudy Wants To Help Our chocolate lab, Rudy, was on hand to lick up all of the baby food Lucy flung on the floor.  The best example of this was when Lucy sneezed right as a spoonful of food was going into her mouth.  It flew everywhere.  The dog was pleased. At one point, Lucy painted a handful of mush across the top of Rudy’s head.  Hopefully Turk cleaned her off.
Lucy is Happy With A Messy Face And A Full Belly After a small cup of squash and a small bowl of rice cereal, Lucy was covered in food, but in a great mood.  Be sure to click on the pictures (especially these last two) to get the close-up on a messy baby face.
Two Teeth And A Face Covered In Rice Cereal Sometimes Lucy tries to chew her food as we put the spoon in her mouth.  It does become a challenge, especially when the spoon gets caught on those two teeth.  I know there will be many more messy meals in our future.  We’re off to a good start.

Haha, I love the first photo. She is seriously TERRIFIED of what is in that spoon. Keep up the good work, Lucy!

Oh I remember Makayla being introduced to solids. Although we started her early. We have been there even now where we make her laugh or heck even when she fusses with her mouth open we cram in a bite :) . Once you get to finger foods..there is a recipe on my facebook for katie to check out how to make pancakes for babies with veggies and fruit in them. Makayla LOVES them.
