We have not disappeared, nor have we decided to stop updating our website. We have just gone through one of the busiest months either of us can remember.
For me, March started off with a collection of projects at work that were kicking my butt all month long. I enjoy the challenges, but it did keep me very busy during the weekdays.
We spent the rest of March working on the house. About 5-6 weeks ago, our realtor suggested that this was a very good time for us to sell our “starter home” as those kinds of houses are selling well right now. In an effort to spruce the place up, we had granite countertops installed in the kitchen and bathrooms. We added a tile backsplash in the kitchen and remodeled the master bath. We had an ugly wood panel wall in the living room that was taken out and replaced with textured, painted drywall. We also had several old cosmetic items touched up. During evening and weekends, we (mostly Kate) went through the house and tried to “reduce” our clutter. A lot of stuff got donated to Goodwill. Other stuff was packed and moved into storage. The result was a great success, as our house never looked better.
Apparently, it worked. We put our house on the market last Wednesday. Within 30 minutes of the house being listed, our realtor called and said someone is coming over to look at the house. “Can you be out of the house in half an hour?” Yikes! I was still at work, and we were packing for our trip to DC (we were getting on an airplane later that afternoon). So I ran through the place cleaning up and putting away. After we left for the airport that afternoon, someone else came by to look at the place. By the time we landed in DC, we had two offers on the house. The next day, both offers had increased and the house continued to show. Within 24 hours we had a verbal agreement and on Friday morning, we signed the contract online. Scary. A month of work and planning and our realtor gets us a buyer in less than 48 hours. We expected at least a couple of weeks to “unwind.”
We ended March and began April by celebrating Katie’s birthday, Easter and Lucy’s 11 month birthday all at the same time. We ventured East to the Washington DC area where we visited Katie’s brother Josh, along with his wife Sarah, and their two kids, Ingrid (5) and Malcolm (who says he is 5, but is actually 2). We had a lovely visit with family members who we don’t get to see nearly enough. We got to tour some Washington sites, but mostly it was just a few days off, hanging out in Virginia, letting Lucy get to know her cousins. We took a lot of pictures. I’ll get some posted as soon as possible.
So April was supposed to be a relaxed month compared to March. I still have several big projects at work, and Katie is as busy as ever at the clinic. However, we now have to be out of our house by the first week of May. Katie will be working feverishly to find us a new place to live (we still don’t have a house). Otherwise, once May comes, we will find ourselves with a one-year old, two dogs, a crazy cat and no house to hold us all. Truly this is a wonderful problem to have.
