Not Feeling So Good

Lucy Napping with her Pink Bear

Lucy got another nasty stomach bug yesterday.  This is probably the worst one yet.  She apparently had a few diarrhea diapers at school yesterday.  I didn’t think much of it, because we just started veggie solids the day before (squash).  So I just figured I would stick to rice cereal that night.  But on the way home, she ate a few ounces of formula and proceeded to give it right back – all over herself, the carseat, and the car.  Imagine Ben trying to clean a pool of white vomit in the bottom of the carseat – pretty shnasty.  It was all downhill after that.  She couldn’t keep anything down last night – not even water.  Poor little thing.  It was a rough night.

This morning, we took her to the doctor, and we’re trying to get her as hydrated as possible.  Thankfully, she hasn’t had any bad vomiting episodes today, thus far.  But, she developed a fever a few hours ago.  So….another call into the doctor to make sure that we don’t need to change course.  Like I said, at least she is keeping things down now – usually water or the occasional watered-down bottle of formula.  Other than that, she has been sleeping the day away – probably a good thing.  And if you know Lucy, you’ll know that naptime is a foreign concept to her.  So this is very unusual.  Buth thankfully she has a nice little teddy bear pillow to snuggle on (thanks Cora Lea).  Hopefully it will pass in the next day or so.

New Foods

Lucy Doesn't Like Squash The first solid food we tried on Lucy was rice cereal.  She loved it, along with the oatmeal and multi-grain cereal.  This weekend we introduced her to veggie baby food for the first time and things didn’t go quite so smoothly.  Her first bites were followed by the funniest “I’m gonna’ puke” face.  I’m sorry I didn’t have the camera pointed at her at that moment.  She then learned the fine art of clamping her mouth tightly shut and turning her head.
She'll Eat Squash If You Make Her Laugh It took a bit, but Kate finally figured out a few magic tricks.  One was mixing up the food.  Sometimes a spoonful of sqash.  Sometimes rice cereal.  Sometimes the two mixed.  Her best trick was to get Lucy to laugh by performing her own renditions of songs from The Wizard of Oz (particularly “If I were King of the Forest”).  Once Lucy started howling, we all broke out laughing hysterically.  Lucy would open her mouth wide in laughter, and Kate would quickly cram another spoonful of squash right in.
Rudy Wants To Help Our chocolate lab, Rudy, was on hand to lick up all of the baby food Lucy flung on the floor.  The best example of this was when Lucy sneezed right as a spoonful of food was going into her mouth.  It flew everywhere.  The dog was pleased. At one point, Lucy painted a handful of mush across the top of Rudy’s head.  Hopefully Turk cleaned her off.
Lucy is Happy With A Messy Face And A Full Belly After a small cup of squash and a small bowl of rice cereal, Lucy was covered in food, but in a great mood.  Be sure to click on the pictures (especially these last two) to get the close-up on a messy baby face.
Two Teeth And A Face Covered In Rice Cereal Sometimes Lucy tries to chew her food as we put the spoon in her mouth.  It does become a challenge, especially when the spoon gets caught on those two teeth.  I know there will be many more messy meals in our future.  We’re off to a good start.

Balloon Faces

Lucy got a balloon at the grocery store.  I’m guessing balloons have an odd effect on her.

What? Me? Who?
I didn’t steal it…I swear!
Please wait... I'm filling my diaper
Little sour….fresh milk please.
You talkin' to me?
What are you lookin’ at???

Coate Coat

Bundled Up and Strapped InIt’s cold here in Houston.  I know, those of you who live further North would say that I have nothing to complain about.  I would in turn respond that you choose to live there (where it is supposed to be cold) and I choose to live here (where I don’t have to shovel driveways, salt sidewalks or scrape windshields).

Lucy needed a warm coat, and Kate went shopping for one today.  It is a little big right now, but hopefully it will fit just right when we make a trip to Virginia in a few months.  Lucy still fits into her newborn / infant carseat, but with that puffy jacket, it was a tight squeeze.  For now, we’ll call all of that padding a little extra protection for Lucy in case her dad gets into a wreck while driving through a school zone, eating a cheeseburger, talking on the cell phone, changing a CD, and rudely gesturing at other drivers who are honking just because he’s in the wrong lane.

Flashy Photos

Over the weekend I got a new flash for the camera (For those who care, it is a Canon Speedlite 580 EX II).  It is cumbersome to have attached (It is almost as big as the camera) but it does wonders for indoor photos.  Here are some of my first attempts:
