I too have conversations in my head. But the MDs say that should stop once I get some real sleep.

I had a similar situation recently that actually had a conversation initiated…but I had to finish it in my head.

I was going to get my hair cut and had Lola with me. We had to pause from walking across the garage parking lot when a big, ultra-shiny black BMW 750iL pulled in (that’s the really expensive one). The driver saw that there were no normal, non-handicapped parking places, obviously contemplated this fact and then pulled in front of the entrance which was painted off as “No Parking” and parked it. As if this wasn’t mean enough, there actually WERE a couple handicap spaces available that would have forced an additional 30-40 feet walking (heaven forbid).

We couldn’t enter the building until this car finished parking in front of the door. Then out of the car comes a 40 or 50-ish looking woman dressed to the nines… I’m not judging but she looked like a winner of a “marry a rich guy” contest and didn’t bother to take her sunglasses off in the dimly-lit parking garage. When she was finally out of the car and looking at me like “what are you looking at”, I politely said something like “watch out, you might get a ticket”. I really was polite, despite the fact that she was a) illegally parked in a spot that prevented the handicapped from easily getting back into their parked cars, and b) that we pedestrians (including a 4 year old) had to wait for HER big BMW to find its parking spot before we could carry on with our pedestrian activities. Anyway, to my polite “you might get a ticket”, she responded “That’s ok, I can afford it”. WHAT THE… HUH? I was truly stunned…who says that kind of crap? So she walked away but looked back a couple times to see me staring at her, stunned. I said “you can afford it, huh?” And she said “yes” and kept walking, looking back once more to make sure I wasn’t doing something to her car that she could afford. This is all a true story, mind you. And unfortunately, that’s where it ended.

So….had I NOT had a 4 year old with me, I might have said something irrelevant to the rich woman like “so you can also afford the door damage that is about to occur as the old handicapped guy who owns that huge Cadillac parked LEGALLY in a handicap spot struggles to get back into his car. Or “so you also afford the taxicab you’ll need to get down to the impound lot to pick up your stupid Junior League look-at-me land yacht?”. Oh the possibilities are endless! I might have pulled an Alice and emptied a couple tires for her.

So I went upstairs, told the hairdresser about my shock and awe, and learned from her that the cops never go to that garage and never give tickets there. The disappointment was overwhelming…made me want to call the cops. Is that mean? I might have if I weren’t afraid that Ms. Warbucks wouldn’t be afraid to key my sexy Subaru. She deserved a good smackin’ for being so golly-darn pompous. Really… I can afford it… who says things like that?

So… MY story did NOT have a happy ending.
